A Plataforma de Organizacións de Infancia Galicia súmame á petición que lanza a rede europea de organizacións de infancia Eurochild para recoller firmas que apoien a creación dun novo posto na Comisión Europea: un comisario europeo da Infancia durante o próximo mandato da Comisión Europea 2019-2024.
Os líderes europeos decidirán nas vindeiras semanas as posicións principais da Comisión Europea, o brazo executivo da Unión Europea. Nos próximos cinco anos, estes comisarios europeos serán responsables de propoñer lexislación e establecer as prioridades políticas e orzamentarias da Unión Europea. Pero non todos os temas teñen o mesmo peso para a Unión Europea.
«Aínda que hai máis de 100 millóns de nenos, nenas e adolescentes na Unión Europea, non hai unha figura dun comisario europeo para a Infancia», explica Adolfo Lacuesta, presidente da plataforma infantil «… hai un comisario para asuntos marítimos e Pesca. O novo posto de Comisario europeo da Infancia implicaría a representación dos intereses dos nenos, nenas e adolescentes en todos os asuntos da UE, incluídas leis e políticas para os 28 estados membros da UE, os países de adhesión e a súa acción exterior. O comisario tamén asegurará que a infancia sexa visible; que existen mecanismos eficaces para garantir que a Infancia participe nas decisións que lle afectan e que existen iniciativas especiais para mellorar a vida dos nenos, nenas e adolescentes.
Os nenos non son só o futuro de Europa, senón o 20% da súa poboación actual, e son afectados directamente polas accións lexislativas e non lexislativas da UE.
