Hoxe 3 de maio celebramos o Día da Libertade de Prensa e reinvindicamos o Dereito á información da Infancia. Un dereito recollido na «Convención sobre os Dereitos do Neno».

O xornalismo informa, forma e entretén. Os nenos, nenas e adolescentes teñen dereito á información, a educación e ao divertimento.

Un reto dos Medios de Comunicación é captar a súa atención como consumidores de noticias, reportaxes, enquisas, pezas audiovisuais…. Os nenos, nenas e adolescentes forman parte da Sociedade que lles toca vivir: a economía, a política, as relacións internacionais, o medioambiente… son cuestións que lles afectan como ao resto de cidadáns.

Xa ven tendo hora de ter a Infancia en conta como suxetos activos de dereitos tamén nos medios de Comunicación e traballar para que a libertade de prensa sexa unha oportunidade para facerlles medrar en espírito crítico.

O mundo precisa de nenos, nenas e adolescentes empodaros a través da Información.

Os medios online, a radio a televisón, os xornais… son tamén para os nenos e nenas. Como adultos debemos asegurar que a información sexa sa. Os gobernos deben procurar que os medios difundan información de moitas fontes. Que teñan en conta todas as realidades sociais, culturais e económicas dos nenos e nenas da nosa Sociedade.

En tempos da pandemia moito se repite que o Xornalismo é un servizo esencial. Tamén o é para a Infancia e temos que traballar para que a libertade de prensa sexa un trampolín para o seu benestar e progreso dentro da Comunidade.

Libertade de expresión

Ademais non podemos esquencer o dereito da Infancia á libertade de expresión e pensamento, a ser escoitado e a poder exercer todos os seus dereitos.

En concreto a Convención sobre os Dereitos do Neno apunta que os Estados Partes:

  • alentarán os medios de comunicación para difundir información e material de interese social e cultural para o neno
  • promoverán a cooperación internacional na producción, o intercambio e a difusión desa información e eses materiais procedentes de diversas fontes culturais, nacionais e internacionais
  • alentarán os medios de comunicación para que teñan en conta as necesidades lingüísticas do neno pertencente a un grupo minoritario
  • promoverán a elaboración de directrices apropiadas para protexer o neno contra toda la información e material prexudicial para o seu benestar…

Moito camiño queda ainda por andar. Pero hoxe pode ser un bó día para facer partícipes os nosos nenos e nenas da libertade de prensa.
